I was expecting that I'd have a fair bit to do with finishing off the packing and just making sure everything is ready, but things got unexpectedly business even before I got to work in what was for me, totally unexpected ways.
I've done two phone interviews with reporters today about the ride. Had two photo shoots for newspapers. Spoke to an ABC radio producer about a very early live interview for tomorrow (7:20ish on ABC TAS). Finally this end, Stuart and I arrived in Launceston and were interviewed 'on the couch' at the Salvos Friday night gathering.

Common themes from the questions today included wanting to know about the ride; where, when, how far? More importantly though, why!
I started this event to raise awareness for the Red Shield Appeal here in Tasmania as well as to raise money for the Appeal as well. After today, I'd say we are well on our way to do both.
I have no doubt that there will be more competent riders looking at the distance and timeline I've set for this event and thinking; "too easy!" For some it no doubt would be, but this is the longest ride I've attempted. I've already said I'm an amateur rider at best, so this is going to be tough for me (and a couple others).
But you know what? That's okay! Everyday the Salvos come alongside people who are doing it tough and do so day in day out. So if this is tough for me - that's okay! We Salvos rely on the support we receive from the public to continue to help 'Care for People' and 'Transform Lives', but we certainly don't take that support for granted!
We start peddling tomorrow at 12pm at The Salvation Army Burnie. Please continue to follow our progress and please think seriously about sponsoring one of the riders and supporting not only us riding around the State, but also The Salvation Army as we continue to engage with those in need in communities right across this country.
